The Real Phantom of the Opera
i just sold my first set of Band of Brothers. YIpee!! wish ko lng tama pagkaburn ko. my bro just told me a while go that there is a chance that i copied only the folder, but not as a video cd. well, ill find out soon nyway.
after going to ust to deliver my product to my very first customer, i proceeded to Robinsons mla to see Phantom of the Opera. alone. as i have been planning to for months. (one of my must-do this year is to try to see a movie alone, jsut for the heck of it.)
before going in, i decided to get myself a bigie sized shrimp burger meal. i actually vowed to indulge on shrimp burgers habang meron pa. i dont wanna feel the same deadly cravings i had last yr when i finally realized that it was only promotional, and that they only have it during lenten season.
finally. the moment ive been waiting for. a very much awaited movie. nice seat. and a biggie sized shrimp burger. perfect.
about the movie, id be a hypocrite to say dat i didnt liked it, since half of the time i spent sitting there was spent bawling over the sad sad sad fate of the phantom.
but the thing is, it wasnt the real story!!! thats what dispoints me!! i know because then, the only music played in my dads car was Yanni ang the soundtrack of the phantom of the opera. obviusly it was his favorite. and as he repeatedly narrates to me, the story goes like this:
the phantom is a songwriter who decided to submit his works to this guy who owns a theater. the owner said it was awful and that he would not feature it, but then he stole the songs and released it as his own. the phantom was so angry that he began to lose his cool and started to destroy anything that was in front of him, that including a bottle of acid that caused his disfigured face. after this he decided to wear the mask and went after the owner, the owner, scared for his life, ran for his life and fell of a tower, and that caused his death.
the phantom then lived under the theater and took over it without showing his face. people were scared of him and obeyed his orders, which he sent by letters, because he kills those who do not. he continued writing songs and plays and directs the play himself, again, without showing his face.
whenver a girl auditions for a role, and the phantom disaproves, he either kills her or threatens her not to come back. this goes on for a while until cristine came. he liked her and taught her to improve more. then raul came and then the conflict began.
so anyway, m not going to tell the whole story, but these are the differences between the movie and the play. and yeah, the ending? the phantom died trying to save cristine. a huge thing was about to fall to cristine, and when the phantom saw it, he ran to pushed her, killing him instead.
nevertheless. the movie was oh so moving. the music was just too beautiful for words. nd i still fil sorry for the phantom. it was a good thing i watched it alone, atleast no one will be teasing me about how dramatic i am.
